Beyond time

Updated: Jan 19

A camera flickers to life, pointed at Alan Foster, a man of about 30–35 years old, wearing a white lab coat and protective goggles. His face reflects both confusion and terror. His disheveled hair speaks to the chaos of the situation.

Alan Foster blinks, disoriented by the bright light. He looks around with a mix of disbelief and fear. Collapsed metal structures dominate a desolate landscape, while the wind whips up swirls of dust. Beside him, Ella Simmons rises, seeking bearings in this strange universe.

The camera remains fixed on Alan, capturing the moment reality hits him. His gaze sweeps across the endless ruins, a glint of horror creeping into his eyes.

“Where are we?” he whispers, more to himself than to Ella.

Ella nervously adjusts her glasses and moves closer to him.

“I have no idea. It doesn't look like anything I've ever seen before,” she replies.

The camera pans slightly, revealing the devastated landscape. Debris litter the ground, and ancient structures lie in pieces. The howling wind breaks the oppressive silence.

The scientists carefully examine their devices, seeking a logical explanation for their situation. Electronic screens flicker, displaying incomprehensible data. The time jump was successful, but something has gone wrong.

The camera focuses on Alan's tense face as he mutters to himself.

“Temporal calibration… it didn't work as expected. We are far in the future, but I can't determine when.”

She shakes her head, her gaze lost in the horizon of ruins.

“But where are the people, Alan? This civilization seems to have disappeared long ago.”

The camera follows the scientists as they explore the desolate landscape. They navigate around the crumbling structures, searching for signs of life or clues about the time they have landed in.

Suddenly, a strange sound makes them stop. Large shadows appear in the distance. The camera focuses on humanoid shapes, but they are far from human. Their limbs are made of metal, their eyes glow, and their strangeness is indescribable.

Alan and Ella hide behind debris, apprehensively watching the mechanical creatures pass by. The camera captures every detail, every rapid heartbeat, every shiver of fear that runs through the scientists.

“What is that?” whispers Ella, trying to contain her panic.

Alan shakes his head, unable to provide a reassuring answer. The camera turns towards the creatures, slowly moving away, leaving the scientists puzzled and worried.

They continue their exploration, the camera recording every uncertain step in this strange world. Hours pass, but there is no sign of human life. The day stretches on, mixing confusion and exhaustion for the two scientists.

Finally, they discover a distinctive structure, an abandoned command center. Inside, dark screens and inactive consoles testify to a distant past. The camera follows their movements as they desperately search for information about this mysterious era.

Then, a screen starts flashing, emitting a faint glow. Alan and Ella approach, staring at the scrolling data. Images of a technologically advanced era appear, showing humans and machines coexisting harmoniously.

“Look at this. It seems like humanity has reached an incredible technological level. But something went wrong,” Ella remarks, scrutinizing the scrolling images.

The camera zooms in on the images, revealing a civilization that has transcended the limits of human understanding. However, the initial joy quickly gives way to a darker reality. The images show devastating natural disasters, destructive conflicts, and ultimately, a gradual disappearance of human life.

Alan stares at the screen, realizing the cruel irony of their situation. They have traveled through time to discover a future where humanity is doomed to disappear.

The camera captures the heavy silence that envelops the room as the implications of their discovery sink in. Alan breaks the silence, his voice tinged with bitterness.

“We're trapped in a future without humans…”

Ella closes her eyes for a moment, trying to assimilate the relentless reality that surrounds them.

“We have to find a way to fix the time jump. Go back to our time. We can't stay here.”

The camera follows the scientists as they leave the command center, determined to find a solution. They traverse the ruins, examining every detail, searching for clues that could guide them.

The sun sets on the horizon, casting a golden light on the metallic debris. The camera captures the tired faces of Alan and Ella, but also the resolute determination in their eyes. They cannot afford to lose hope.

A bright flash suddenly envelops the horizon, drawing their gaze. The camera turns towards this mysterious source, which materializes into a massive silhouette floating in the air. It is a temporal portal, a distortion in space-time.

The amazed faces of the scientists are captured by the camera. Perhaps this is their ticket back to their time. Without hesitation, Alan and Ella approach the portal, with each step of their progress being recorded by the camera.

As they reach the portal, a voice resonates in the air, ethereal and barely perceptible.

“You cannot go back. Time can only be moved in one direction.”

The camera turns towards the horizon, revealing an indistinct silhouette blending into the twilight. Alan and Ella exchange worried looks. The portal still glows enticingly, but the reality of their situation seems to set in.

The voice repeats, this time with even more urgency.

“Time is an unstoppable force. You have crossed a boundary that humanity was not supposed to cross. You are now beyond time.”

The camera briefly cuts, then resumes to capture the growing determination on Alan's face.

“We have to try. We can't stay here.”

Alan and Ella pass through the portal, and the light engulfs them. The camera records their passage through the temporal distortion, revealing flashes of light and swirls of energy.

Yet, once on the other side, the scene that unfolds is far from what they expected. Stars swirl in a cosmic sky, galaxies dance in a celestial choreography. They float in the immensity of the universe, disoriented, without reference points.

The camera cuts off again, reflecting the growing uncertainty of the scientists. The mysterious voice resonates one last time in their minds.

“Beyond time, your destiny lies in the hands of cosmic forces. Will you find a way back, or will you wander eternally in the echoes of infinity?”

The camera remains off, leaving Alan and Ella adrift in the cosmos, confronted with the uncertainty of their destiny. Beyond time, their adventure is only just beginning.
